Wahoo
I drive alot, more than I want. Like alot of other people, I have family in different cities, hundreds of miles away and I drive to see all of them on a regular basis. Driving has been apart of my life since I was 6 living on the farm and as a truck driver in my early twenties. My point is I've seen alot of places and have driven through 48 states, I would even like to consider myself an expert on driving from any point a to any point b but there is one place on the way to my parents house that boggles my mind every time I drive through. Wahoo, If you don't know about Wahoo it's about 35 miles north of Lincoln, Nebraska, with a population of under ten thousand. Wahoo's claim to fame is "The home office of the Late Show's top ten list, with David Letterman" but this is the most messed up place on the face of the earth. Someone here must have alot of pull in the planning of roads because on both sides of Wahoo there is a new four lane highway but it end right before and after you get near Wahoo. All that is missing is a three miles strech of highway that would take you around this little hole in the world and it would take 3 min and would stop 15 min. of painful driving through "THE CRAPEST PLACE ON EARTH" ( I know what you're thinking maybe it's just road construction but it's been this way for 4 or 5 years) I mean damn, so this is what happens you're crusin north on US 77 at 65 (or faster) on a FOUR LANE HIGHWAY and within one mile of Wahoo this highway comes to a complete stop and you have to take a right so you do, and you drive one more mile at 35mph to another stop but not any stop a four way stop, where you have got to take a left (same major four lane US highway) then you drive a block and come to a stop light (the only one in town) where you can sit up to three min., when that's over you drive 25mph roughly 4 blocks where you get to go around a right 90 degree turn at 20 mph into on coming semi traffic (always alot of semis, it's a four lane US highway by the way) that usally come inches away from running over the front of your car (and don't get over too far you'll hit the foot high, 90 degree curb, it's the curb from hell) but then you get to speed up to 35mph for two to three blocks before having to slow down for a left 90 degree turn (into on coming truck traffic), then you get to drive a mile outside of town at 35mph where you get to a stop light (not in town) take a right and then only then you get to resume on to the new, fabulous, 65 mph, super highway of US 77. Did you get tired of reading all the direction there, well my point is that in the time it took you to read all of that you could have zoomed past, what I can only image as Hell, on that three mile strech of super highway if they would have only put it in. I hope no one ever must drive through this crap hole. I can see the towns point of not by passing it for business reasons, kinda (and for this point I will never stop in Wahoo for any and I mean any reason ever) I mean I've seen alot of towns die after the highway by passes them but on the other hand I've seen towns move bussines out to the new highway and create more and new commerce. Well, if you have ever been there or have another injustic that you would like to share I would love to hear your thoughts or if you're a really mental human being, check it out, I would love to hear from you too. ( but you would have to be a really, really, really sick person to do that). If you live in Wahoo and voted on such an insane plan. I hate you

I know exactly what you are talking about. My husbands family is from Wagner, SD. We go up 77, but we turn west at Wahoo. We totally love it now. We don't have to go through town like we did before. I guess if we were going to Fremont like in the past we would totally feel the same way about the new highway as you do. Right now I can't think of anything as horrible as highway 77, but I'm sure I will later, when I don't have a computer handy.
Expressionism at its best. I have been to Wahoo many times, my dad was born in Prague. I know of the very highway, turns, and roads you speak of. It seems a lot of towns are doing projects to this. Highway 30 comes to mind.
wow, there is no way I could live in wahoo and work and go to school in lincoln. I hate driving.
